Bespoke design to enable a young person’s specific play style: outdoor indoor, water-play and cause and effect, the transition space between house and garden allows for creative messy play in an environment which enables exploration whilst also supporting very specific individual needs. From the start of the process, I was interested in understanding what made this child happy. In order to do this, I listened very carefully to his parents, and observed how he used the existing spaces in the house. This then led to a design which gave him the opportunities of growing independence and agency, whilst still feeling safe.
